Oregon State University Tour

Organizer: EERI
Monday, July 13, 2026
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Registration Rate: $50

Spend the day traveling to Oregon State University, located in Corvallis, Oregon, to see state-of-the-art research facilities and meet the researchers! Attendees will see the largest tsunami simulator in the world, and experience how sustainability and earthquake preparedness fit together in new mass timber university buildings featuring damage-limiting performance-based design lateral systems. This tour may also stop at the Oregon State Capitol, where a seismic retrofit featuring a base-isolation system is nearing completion.

Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub Boat Tour

Organizer: EERI
Friday, July 17, 2026
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Registration Rate: $75

Join this guided boat tour of Portland’s Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub, a nationally significant concentration of fuel storage facilities located along the Willamette River. The CEI Hub supplies more than 90% of Oregon’s liquid fuel and is underlain by highly liquefaction‑susceptible alluvial soils and dredged fill, making it particularly vulnerable to Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquakes.

From the river, participants will observe key energy facilities and hear an overview of regional seismic hazards, liquefaction mechanisms, and how recent state legislation and regulatory programs are shaping seismic vulnerability assessments and risk mitigation planning. This tour offers engineers and researchers a rare opportunity to examine geotechnical risk, infrastructure systems, and resilience challenges in real‑world context.

Note, tours can be canceled due to an insufficient number of registrants. If a tour is canceled for this reason, attendees will be refunded the tour registration fee.
