Seismic Design Competition

The 2026 Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition (SDC) will be held at the 13NCEE in Portland, Oregon.

The SDC is a longstanding tradition at EERI’s Annual Meetings and National Conferences. The competition provides civil engineering undergraduate students with an opportunity to work on a hands-on earthquake engineering project to design and construct a cost-effective frame building to resist seismic loading.

Organized by EERI’s Student Leadership Council (SLC), the SDC draws student teams from universities around the world. Teams are judged on their oral design presentation, their summary poster, the model’s architectural design, their ability to fit within the design criteria and constraints, their analytical prediction of their model performance, and the response of their model during shaking table testing.

EERI and the SLC are deeply grateful to our 2026 SDC sponsors! The listing below shows all sponsoring organizations who have confirmed as of the date of the Rules release. New sponsors will be added to the website. We would like to extend a special thank you to Computers and Structures Inc. (CSI) for their generous support as the Anchor and Meal Sponsor of the 2026 Seismic Design Competition. The commitment of CSI, and our other sponsors, Degenkolb Engineers, California Earthquake Authority, Oregon State University College of Engineering, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Kinemetrics, UC Davis Center for Geotechnical Modeling, and Tipping Engineers, makes this event possible.
